MARTIN LUTHER KING JR
Exactly two months before his assassination, Martin Luther King Jr. preached his final sermon at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta. On February 4, 1968, the civil-rights icon spoke about how he wanted to be remembered at his funeral. He preferred that people recall not his education or achievements but that he “tried to give his life serving others” and “tried to love somebody.”
Adapting a 1952 homily by J. Wallace Hamilton, King decried the “drum major instinct — a desire to be out front, a desire to lead the parade.” Humans often want to be great and first, as evidenced by the disciples James and John requesting prime seats in paradise. But King urged listeners to focus on the “reordered priorities” of Jesus, who wants us to “be first in love.”
As Jesus showed, “everybody can serve,” King said. Your background or status doesn’t matter, as long as you have “a heart full of grace” and “a soul generated by love.”
CHILDREN'S MOMENT
Let us then meditate upon the Nativity just as we see it happening in our own babies. I would not have you contemplate the deity of Christ, the majesty of Christ, but rather his flesh. Look upon the baby Jesus.
Divinity may terrify people. Inexpressible majesty will crush them. That is why God took on our human flesh and blood, that God should not terrify us but rather that with love and favor God would console and comfort us.

Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:22-25
Hello,
Many of you know that Pastor Janet lost her beloved companion Cuddles to a disk problem in her back. Cuddles is now in heaven with the Lord. Pastor and all who crossed Cuddles’ path will have great memories about Cuddles forever. We will miss her dearly. We pray that the Lord helps Pastor as she grieves. May Pastor find comfort in the Lord, her family, her friends, her church family and the new addition that the Lord brought her way in a little puppy named Snuggles. She is from the same breeder as Cuddles. God works in so many ways. May Pastor and Snuggles have so many wonderful experiences together. God’s blessings go out to Pastor and Snuggles.
Cuddles will be with Snuggles in spirit as Snuggles tries to figure out Jesus and His word. Please pray for them as they continue Cuddles’ Corner.
Mommy is going to be preaching about Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus. An angel appeared to Joseph in a dream. I wonder what the angel said to Joseph. Did Joseph obey what the angel said? Please join us Sunday morning for worship at 10:30 AM to hear the answer to that question and so much more as we near the time of Jesus’ birth.

Luke 2:8-14
Hello there,
Mommy has been preaching about the Characters of Christmas. This week’s sermon is going to be presented through drama. The sermon is entitled, “The Shepherds.”
Mary was to give birth to Jesus. Mary and Joseph were to get married. Mary was starting to show that she was pregnant. She became so by the Holy Spirit. Joseph followed the Jewish Laws. He could have divorced Mary because it looked like she was unfaithful. She could have been stoned to death. An angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. Joseph was not to be afraid and he should take Mary home as his wife.
The baby was conceived by the Holy Spirit and his name would be Jesus. He would save people from their sins. God sends angels to help people to understand the importance of what was to happen. The angels help carry out God’s work on earth.
Mary and Joseph were not the only ones to hear about what was to happen. In Luke 2, shepherds in the fields were told about Jesus’ birth. One night as the shepherds were watching over their sheep an angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them. They were afraid and the angel told them not to be afraid. The angel brought good news and would make people really happy. The Messiah was born and they could find Him wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.
Can you imagine how excited people were? People had been waiting for the Messiah for a long, long time and here the news was shared with the shepherds out in the fields. They were no one special in the eyes of others but God used them to spread the news about Jesus’ birth. The Lord takes you as you are. You are special to Him no matter what others think. He loves you and wants you to spread the good news about Him. How about it? Have you talked about Jesus today? Take some time and talk with someone after you finish this Bible Study. Can you tell them a little about the birth of Jesus? He will be smiling down on you for sharing about His birth.
Come join us at 10:30 AM on Sunday, as we learn about “The Shepherds.”
See you soon!
Bark bark,
Snuggles, with the help of Cuddles in heaven.
